Worldview Series 6. Is Our Thinking Biblical?

As adults, we already have a worldview. So how can we establish a Christ-centered worldview for ourselves? There are challenges, but none so formidable that they can’t be overcome. We ask ourselves certain questions to evaluate our core beliefs. We want to make sure our thinking is compatible with biblical truth. If it isn’t, we can abandon false ideas and look to the Bible to modify them into truth. We want to see reality clearly. The following eight questions used by George Barna in a survey about a biblical worldview help us determine if our beliefs are consistent with biblical teaching:

  1. Do absolute moral truths exist?
  2. Is absolute truth defined by the Bible?
  3. Did Jesus Christ live a sinless life?
  4. Is God the all-powerful and all-knowing creator of the universe, and does he still rule it today?
  5. Is salvation a gift from God that cannot be earned?
  6. Is Satan real?
  7. Does a Christian have a responsibility to share their faith in Christ with other people?
  8. Is the Bible accurate in all of its teachings?

The answers to these questions are valuable, but it’s more important to verify that our life shows our commitment to a biblical worldview. Yes, we are all sinners. We all fall short of the glory of God. Regardless, our immediate responses to other people and the world will reveal our deepest, most honest, and valid beliefs about God’s plans for redemption of the world.

Answering these questions gives us an idea of what a life committed to a Christ-centered worldview looks like. We can choose to investigate if our life shows a Christ-centered worldview at our core, or leave our lives the way they are.

Let’s talk … and, God bless
