Colossians 2:6-10 Living Bible
6 And now just as you trusted Christ to save you, trust him, too, for each day’s problems; live in vital union with him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him and draw up nourishment from him. See that you go on growing in the Lord, and become strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with joy and thanksgiving for all he has done.
8 Don’t let others spoil your faith and joy with their philosophies, their wrong and shallow answers built on men’s thoughts and ideas, instead of on what Christ has said. 9 For in Christ there is all of God in a human body; 10 so you have everything when you have Christ, and you are filled with God through your union with Christ. He is the highest Ruler, with authority over every other power.
Sometimes, even though our faith in Christ is real and we receive the blessings of being part of his body, we lose sight of the firm foundation upon which our commitment to him stands. It isn’t that we love him less or wallow in reckless behaviors, which can cause a pattern of sin in our lives.
But life is hard and in dealing with one disappointment after another, we get discouraged. It’s at this time that we might let our guard down and give Satan the upper hand. We might succumb to philosophies based on adoring ourselves and/or ideas that grant us permission to do whatever makes us happy.
However, when things in life get tough, and we face job loss, sickness, broken relationships, and a million other negative things—THAT’S THE TIME TO TURN TO JESUS. He will provide comfort, love, and peace beyond understanding. We have everything we need in Christ.
