Proverbs 2:1-8: The Living Bible Translation
1-2 Every young man who listens to me and obeys my instructions will be given wisdom and good sense. 3-5 Yes, if you want better insight and discernment, and are searching for them as you would for lost money or hidden treasure, then wisdom will be given you and knowledge of God himself; you will soon learn the importance of reverence for the Lord and of trusting him.
6 For the Lord grants wisdom! His every word is a treasure of knowledge and understanding. 7-8 He grants good sense to the godly—his saints. He is their shield, protecting them and guarding their pathway.
The presumption that Solomon, known for his wisdom, wrote all of Proverbs is questioned by some of today’s biblical scholars. However, in my opinion, the confusion surrounding the author of Proverbs is secondary to the wisdom given throughout Proverbs.
Today’s passage might as well be a blueprint for young men and women who are leaving the nest to attend college. If they don’t know God, it will open their eyes to God’s provisions. And if they do know God, it will affirm what they’ve learned thus far and reiterate what their youth pastors have taught them.
And for we adults? We ought to print it out and fold it up small enough to reside in our billfold. Then we will always have a reference tool for certain calamities or circumstances in our lives that are troubling for us.
