Proverbs 12:5-7 The Message Translation
5 The thinking of principled people makes for justice; the plots of degenerates corrupt.
6 The words of the wicked kill; the speech of the upright saves.
7 Wicked people fall to pieces—there’s nothing to them; the homes of good people hold together.
These three verses in Proverbs might seem harsh—they are not—they are the truth. The writer has used comparisons to make a point.
- principled people/degenerates
- justice or fairness/corruption
- wicked people/good people
- fall to pieces-nothing to them/hold together
The progression from verse five to verse six shows the comparisons build until in verse seven the wicked are destroyed but the good people survive.
The point is this: If we are wicked people and plot destruction, we will eventually fall apart; while fair, honest, and ethical people will endure.
