Psalm 68:4-6
4 Sing to God, sing praises to his name;
lift up a song to him who rides through the deserts;
his name is the Lord;
exult before him!
5 Father of the fatherless and protector of widows
is God in his holy habitation.
6 God settles the solitary in a home;
he leads out the prisoners to prosperity,
but the rebellious dwell in a parched land.
Psalm 68 is a hymn of celebration. So, the Psalmist, David, encourages the faithful to sing and celebrate the goodness of God. I believe in songs of celebration, especially at memorial services. My sister, Mickey passed over into heaven in 2018, and the last song during her memorial service, as people left the sanctuary, was Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop The Feeling.” We all felt better about losing her as we left. And for her, when she knew she wasn’t going to get better, she raised her arms in praise to God as she prepared to pass into His arms, always remembering that she had lived with “sunshine in her pocket.”
